Hillgate Place, Notting Hill

We’re greeted by the spacious living room. None of those long, narrow and winding corridors separating the ground floor. Instead, everything is in an open plan layout. And yet, the calming and unobtrusive pastel palette of the rooms, combined with the large landscape paintings and arrangement of the furniture brings about a welcome breath of the old timey Victorian style.
The beige ottoman is the centrepiece of this living room. Acting in place of the conventional coffee table, it regardless ties to room together nicely, giving it a slight Victorian tea room appeal, while still keeping the overall contemporary theme. The front window showers the entire open floor space with copious light, accenting the brightness of the pastel colours.
Another look at the living room. The lime-coloured couch reminds of the large Victorian antique upholstery couches, while also falling into the contemporary-modern theme of the place.
Coming into the back part of the living room, we’re presented with the more modern theme of the house. The bespoke media cabinet and shelving in beige-white, the lime-coloured lounge chairs and interesting shapes of the lime-and-green rug. Everything in the room plays to the unobtrusive and undemanding atmosphere of the house. There’s no clutter, no unnecessary colours or clashing elements.
Moving on inward into the house, we enter the dining room. There, we’re brought back to the old Victorian style, with its’ “shabby chic” outlook, accentuated by the worn-down wooden cabinet and dining table. Overlooked by the staircase, the room gives off an intriguing old-style country house feeling, which plays well with the rest of the place’s theme.
Another look at the dining room puts the focus on the shabby chic dining table, overlooked, almost as if as a custodian, by the giant wooden cabinet, flanked by the Victorian-style chairs.
Continuing further on, we’re welcomed in a stylishly modenresque kitchen, which, while rather on the small side, is made spacious by the large overhanging glazed roof giving the room plentiful light. As a counterpoint to the rest of the ground floor, the room features a modern island with an integrated sink, providing some much needed workspace to the otherwise small kitchen.
The master bedroom of the house is spacious and bright, sharing the palette and overall style of the ground floor. The large windows provide the maximum amount of light, while the double-layer shades and curtains are perfect for providing both privacy and for completing the minimalistic style of the room.

Another focus of the master bedroom, this time on its’ large sash-windows, showing off the stylistic flow of the room in its’ curtains and the bed’s pillows.
Opposite the master bedroom’s bed is a small, two-person “loveseat” couch which again, much like the one in the living room, mixes contemporary modern with a distinctive Victorian touch. The large wardrobe/cabinet mix also harkens back to the Victorian style, though with a much more modern outlook.
The second bedroom of the house is another great example of this place’s mixed themes. The shabby chic corner chair looks onto the two single beds, pushed together to make one large, giving the room an almost “turn of the century” feel.
This image, focused on the pushed-together beds, gives us a better feel for their arrangement. While sporting a contemporary look themselves, the two table lamps to each side tie the scene together into a welcome, old-timey “turn of the century” theme.
Looking into the third bedroom, we’re once again reminded of the house’s shabby chic appeal in the image of the Victorian style letter desk, turned clothes cabinet.
An in-focus look at the shabby chic cabinet of the third bedroom lets us appreciate the aesthetic appeal of the theme, mixed with the contemporary appeal of the bed. The march hare painting, with it’s shabby chic frame and vibrant colours, adds some interesting personality to the room.
Last but not least - the front facade of the house makes for a bright and stylish addition to the colourful terraced row, and the pastel lime colour compliments the calm green palette inside.
